I purchased some Embrighten 46203 Z-Wave dimmers to automatically turn on and off circuits with ceiling fans around the house. Under the hood, these are Jasco 14321/ZW3005 dimmers sold under the Embrighten brand. The Embrighten docs said they could be used as a switch - great! - but forum posts and discussions always pointed to using HomeAssistant to set the ramp time as low as possible and the ramp speed as fast as possible, so it remains a dimmer but is a really fast dimmer.
Unfortunately, I don’t want that. I want this to work as a switch and not as a dimmer, because my ceiling fan’s motor makes a loud humming noise when the dimmer is ramping up and down, as the motor isn’t getting enough power. I’m happy disabling dimmer functionality for this to work exclusively as a switch! After some searching, here’s how to configure this from HomeAssistant.
In the device information, hit Configure.
Add a custom configuration:
- Parameter:
16 - Size:
1 - Value:
1 - Format:
Enumerated(orvalue_format: 2if you’re looking at the YAML directly)
Then hit “set value” and test it.
To restore dimmer functionality, set the value to 0 instead. Happy hacking. :)
